I've been a medium-sized fan of Neko Case ever since Fox Confessor Brings the Flood. I listened to the first song Margaret vs. Pauline while my dad and I were driving to Vermont to visit my grandparents (yeah i remember that), and it felt so perfect and relaxing to me. And then the next song Star Witness gave me the same kind of feeling, and i said "Gosh! This is the stuff!", or someting along those lines. As the months went by, i kinda forgot about the album. But out of the blue, i hear Neko's next album is coming out soon, and i had heard such great stuff about it. So I figure I should probably listen to it. And guess what? It's better. In my opinion, this is probably the best album of 2009 so far. The cd starts off with a rousing, but at the same time, calm song called This Tornado Loves You. Indeed. A song that keeps you tranquil, but won't let you fall asleep either. The calm, Iron & Wine sounding guitar on Vengeance is Sleeping gives this album the Neko kind of feel. Same with Middle Cyclone. Very Iron & Wine sounding. Fever is fun to listen to, with its catchy drum beat, and clever lyrics. "I caught his words in my open mouth, i gagged and choked and spit them out". You can't not love the melodious chorus on Prison Girls, either. I think that after listening to this album i've become a large, big mac-sized fan of this singer/songwriter. This is truly a remarkable and memorable group of songs put in a tactical, officient order, or album, from the very talented, Neko Case.
