Shutter Island
In Martin Scorsese’s first attempt at the horror movie genre, “Shutter Island”, Leonardo Dicaprio stars the film as a Boston detective who journey’s to a mysterious island for the criminally insane. On this island, an insane woman who killed her children has escaped and the head of the institution (Ben Kingsley) seems eerily calm about it. The film is beautifully shot, flying through the real world and the dream world and the entire cast as a whole works perfectly with each other. However, the foreshadowing at a point gets completely ridiculous and I find out I just wish the actors would look into the camera and say “THIS ISLAND IS BAD!” At times it can also be astoundingly bloody with flashbacks of the woman killing her kids and just for good measure, they threw in some of the Holocaust. Other then that, the film is a testiment to the fact that Martin Scorsese can do what ever he wants, and is awesome at it.
My Review: B+
